In a glass filled with ice, layer equal parts vodka and Campari. Top with orange juice. Drink immediately, and enjoy responsibly!
Campari is one of those drinks that only older, well-dressed women order at a bar. The youth of today don't even know what it is, let alone know how to order it, or with what. Out of an unfortunate mishap, I came into possession of a bottle. After tasting it straight and making a face like I just ate a lemon, I decided to do some research. The Campari website is quite helpful, and has tons of recipes (and recipe videos!) to help you out. Traditionally, it is an aperitif that is drunk before a meal. But when one is experimenting, that rule is thrown out the window (in the name of research, of course!). One of the first things I tried with Campari was the very simple Campari and Orange juice. I was amazed! Just that sweetness from the orange juice was enough to offset the uncanny bitterness from the drink. However, since I am a martini girl, and I yearned for something--ahem--a bit stronger, I decided to add vodka. Voila! A drink I can really stand behind! Great for a first cocktail of the night, or to keep the party going, this drink is complex and delicious. Sweet while not being too sweet, which is one of my favorite flavors! And of course, I love the bright colors!
